For those who are on diet, the
major challenge for them is when having foods outside their home. Now, the good
news is New Atkins makes eating out easier and more flexible, whether in
restaurants or fast food chains. As long as you keep away from bad refined
carbohydrates, there are plenty of choices for you to choose. The foods you
should avoid are white rice and bread, soups or sauces thickened with flour and
breaded deep-fried foods. You should also watch out for any hidden carbohydrates
which can usually be found in salad dressings.
Before going out for dining, it
is wise to check the restaurants menus first if they ever posted their menus
online, to avoid any dishes which are not suitable for Atkins diet. Simple
grilled or roasted dishes are good choices but avoid stews dishes which may have
starchy vegetables in. There is nothing wrong to always ask the waiter what is
in a dish and request for any specific changes to your dish, for example
replacing potatoes with a dressing-free side salad.
Friendly Atkins Diet Foods when Eating Out
If you are visiting western
food outlets, here are the suggestions for you. For Italian food, a bowl of
fresh olives is always better than a basket of bread. You can also choose
antipasto, salads, grilled poultry or meat or seafood, but minus the pasta or
rice. For Mexican food, you can opt for salsa, guacamole, grilled poultry or
seafood in garlic sauce, tortilla-free Enchiladas Verdes and taco salad with
beef or chicken. Always say no to the rice, beans and tostada. French onion
soup, salad, scallops in cream sauce, steak au poivre, beef bourguignon, duck
al'orange and mussels in white wine sauce are dishes that you can choose if you
are having French food. But remember to avoid the bread topping for soup, frites
and crepes.
If you are having Asian food,
for example Indian or Chinese food, there are also plenty of choices for you.
Tandooris, curries, grilled shrimp, meat or chicken kebabs, korma, saag and
paneer dishes are among the choices for Indian foods. Avoid naan, chapattis,
dals, briyani rice, samosas and also chutneys. For Chinese food, go for the
sizzling, steamed or stir-fried dishes, egg-drop or hot and sour soup but don’t
eat the rice, noodles, spring rolls and also sweet and sour dishes.
If you happen to visit a fast
food chain for breakfast, lunch or dinner, there are also choices for low carb
Atkins dieters. Choose for any burger set (but minus the bun and ketchup) or any
salad with grilled chicken minus the salad dressing. Do not go for any fries,
nuggets, wraps, milk shakes and breaded deep-fried foods.
